about

This batch of music was created approaching the winter solstice 2020 and the winter that followed. They are reflections on the shortening of days, the lengthening of shadows and quality of light during this time. Maybe more accurately, this music is about the emotions and mental states that bubble to the surface due to these phenomena.

Some of these moments were improvised and left as is. Others have been layered, edited and distilled over years. I like the way the planned and the unplanned both have a home. Repetition using loops and drones reflected my inner world at that time and felt truthful and therapeutic.

In the last couple years, I kept coming back to this collection of sounds and came to the conclusion that it should be out in the world, not just sitting on my hard drive...so here it is!
Maybe it will help you feel something that can’t quite be felt without the right music to lead you there.

STATIONARY MOVEMENTS

morning
blinking lights
through dream eyes
through kitchen windows
through breakfast rituals
another day
spilling onto the floor
while fern fronds dance
while i change clothes
while i’m split open
another day another day another day

last night
the essence of a stealthy night creature
stuck around
under streetlights
in shadows
like
a rainbow oil slick
floating on the surface
like
the edge of light
the end of an icicle
or
the memory of an echo
barely there
not heard but felt

another day
back together again
for now
